The FDA announced it is accepting public comments for “a modified risk tobacco product application” for the IQOS tobacco system with Marlboro Heatsticks, submitted by Philip Morris Products. The purpose of the comment period is to test actual consumer perceptions about how Philip Morris proposes to label and market the product. Among other issues to be considered are whether consumers will not be misled into believing that the product “is or has been demonstrated to be less harmful or presents or has been demonstrated to present less of a risk of disease than one or more other commercially marketed tobacco products,” according to FDA. Comments are due by December 12, 2017.
